The building was designed at a somewhat secluded location with mainly windowless walls in order to make it possible to study the behaviour of primates without external stimuli.

Designed in 1991 by the Utrecht Architect and Designer Mart van Schijndel (1943 - 1999).

The use of this building had to be terminated (2009) because of its deteriorated technical status. It was demolished to facilitate the reduction of built area in De Uithof which was part of the Urban plan 2010.
